Best of 2008 Picks -- Jane Yolen

I have been collecting (and loving) Hellboy and now I have volume 1 and 2 of the oversized hardcover collector's editions and reveling in them. Yum. You betcha. Ritual Disclaimer--I wrote the Intro to one early edition of Hellboy. Yes, I'm a geek. Sue me.

Also Mom's Choice: Son Adam Stemple's Steward of Song, full of truly awful Unseelie folk, a tough American cop (female) and her two brothers--one a crazy-as-a-loon Gulf War vet given a mysterious baby, and the other brother who is now the king/emperor/tyrant of the Fey. Yes, a sequel. And yes, I would have loved it even if I hadn't given birth to the author vastly too many years ago. You know I love it--I read it in mss. and through about five revisions.

And lastly, Society's Child, a memoir by Janis Ian. She knew everyone . Played with just about everyone. Kept her cool, her sense of humor, and her feelings about justice intact. She is the book.
