Best of 2008 Picks -- Cherie Priest

Hmm. Well, I spend so much time reviewing books that it's come to feel like work these days, so let me stick to movies: THE DARK KNIGHT actually lived up to most of its hype, and I appreciate the fact that it took itself seriously; likewise IRON MAN was a really fantastic superhero movie that rocked the funny-and-sort-of-messy antihero thing quite smashingly; screw the critics, DEATH RACE rocked my socks; the first segment (of three distinct ones) in THE SIGNAL was damn near pitch-perfect, though the other two weren't quite as tight; WALL-E was freakin' precious; DOOMSDAY was poorly reviewed but I loved every minute of it and I don't care who knows it.
