Lars Nilsson, Senior Writer, is in his early fifties and lives in Mellerud, west of the big lake Vanern, in Sweden where he works as Director of Education for the local council. He has written a number of books about schools and some resource materials for English teaching in Sweden, including one called "Songs for Educational Purposes" based on 15 songs recorded by Fairport Convention. He started his music writing career more than a quarter of a century ago when he wrote pieces about rock history for a magazine for children. When time allows he takes out one of his guitars or his bouzouki and plays folk music from the British Isles. Until lately he has been playing with a group called Still No Bagpipes (see review of their CD in this magazine), but left when he moved to another area. He is also a keen visitor to the British Isles, which he has been to about 55 times, often taking the opportunity to hear live music by the likes of Fairport Convention and others when he is there.
