For immediate release
Suvi Oskala’s debut solo album has been released in February 2012. The album consists of music composed between 2004 and 2011 by Suvi Oskala with improvisation in each piece, making each performance unique! The percussionist Oskari Lehtonen features as a guests artist on the album. The CD is co-produced by composer and performance artist Masi Tiitta with whom Oskala has collaborated on several projects since 2006.
Suvi Oskala is a fiddle player and singer whose solo material always seems to take her on an experimental journey, combining her extensive vocal range together with her five-string fiddle. Suvi Oskala holds a Master’s Degree from the Folk Music Department of Sibelius Academy where she studied from 2002 to 2010 with fiddle and singing as her two majors. During this time she had the chance to explore music from all corners of the world, especially from Scandinavia. All this and more can be heard on this unique solo album!
In addition to her solo projects Suvi Oskala also plays in several bands. In spring 2012 she will also be releasing albums as a duo with Emilia Lajunen, with her Swedish-Finnish band Pelios and as a fiddle quartet with Emilia Lajunen, Piia Kleemola and Kukka Lehto (Piia Kleemola & Co: Fiddle Feast [SibaRecords]). Prior to her current projects she has been a member of bands such as The Auvo Quartet (FIN-UK) and Polka Chicks.
Suvi Oskala: SOOLO is published by Suvi Sounds and is a part of Sibelius Academy Folk Music Department’s CD series. The CD has been released with support from ESEK. The album is available at www.jukeboxshop.net.
