On Monday at 9.08 am RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta will broadcast a programme in memory of Muiris Ó Rócháin, much loved charismatic director of Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy, who passed away in October.
The programme, Seachtain Mhuiris, was recorded by Ian Lee in 2001 during the Willie Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay. Ian spent the week with Muiris, and we learn about the work involved every year in organising classes, sorting out problems, and we also learn about the great satisfaction he derived from his involvement in the school, and those he came to know through it. The programme also includes interviews from that time with Muiris’s wife Úna, Peadar Ó Riada, Maighréad Ní Dhomhnaill, Áine Hensey, Ciarán Mac Mathúna, Brian Mullen, Nicholas Carolan, Peter Browne and Mairi Nic an Ghobhainn. The music to be heard in the programme was also recorded during the summer school that year, 2001.
The programme, Seachtain Mhuiris, can be heard on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta on bank holiday Monday 31 Oct 9.08 am.
